КЪЩА НА ШАПКИТЕ - ИРИНА САРДАРЕВА
The House of Hats is located on the quiet “Vladaiska” street in the center of Sofia, next to Ruski Pametnik. If you still have not visited the realm of hats then you have missed an enchanting experience. Here, in the House of Hats, you can try on hats hours on end and transform yourself.
The house was founded in 1997 and it is the fulfilled dream of Irina Sardareva to have a store and a workshop, a real kingdom of hats, far from the hustle and the bustle of the main streets. This is a place where a woman can try on hats and transform herself, away from the sight of the passersby.
“It is not by accident that the house came to me”, Irina Sardareva says.
Before that Maria Hadzhigenova, wife of an ex-minister of agriculture owned the house. She, like Irina, was fascinated by the idea of becoming a hatmaker and when she built the house in 1929 she wanted to fulfil her dream. However her husband did not approve of that and Maria left the house and her two children and headed to Paris. Her dream however did not come true and she never succeeded in millinery.
“When we bought the house”, Irina Sardareva recalls, “we made a reconstruction plan. When workers started their work on the house it appeared that we are not making a reconstruction of the house, but a renovation, we were actually restoring its former appearance. After a while Maria’s daughter visits the house and she finds that it was rebuilt the way her mother wanted to see it.
In 2007 the House of Hats celebrates its 10-year anniversary from when it was first founded.
